The Ladies Indoor Squad missed out on making the Indoor Finals this year after coming up against Trinity & Armagh in the National Indoor Qualifiers for Group A.
The squad took on Trinity in the first match in what was an end to end game. After numerous missed opportunities for forwards Paula Anderton and Cara Kelehan, the Blackrock side held the students until a penalty corner was given in the last 10 seconds with the students hitting the backboards and taking the 3 points.
Avoca then took on Armagh who had already beaten Trinity 5-3 in the first match of the day. Armagh clearly the strongest side in the group took an early lead in the first minute. Armagh converted two more in the first half, though they were to be denied a penalty stroke by Avoca's keeper Danni Cummins who put on nothing but a spectacular performance throughout both matches. Avoca's spirit held strong and in the second half, already 3-0 down they stepped up the momentum with Captain Ruth McDonagh and Aifric O'Malley pressing forward from the back line. Cara Kelehan finally hit the backboards for Avoca which spurred the Division 4 side on against the Northern team. Again goalie Cummins denied the Northern side from a second penalty stroke with a stunning save off the line. Unfortunately, Armagh proved too strong and finished the game 6-1.
Armagh and Trinity went through to the finals, with Armagh taking the National Indoor Title for 2011.
